About the Faculty of Business, Communication Studies and Aviation
The Faculty of Business, Communication Studies & Aviation comprises the Bissett School of Business, the School of Communication Studies and the Aviation Program. The Bissett School of Business offers a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with majors in accounting, human resources, general management (with concentrations in innovation and entrepreneurship, social innovation). Students in the Bissett School of Business can take a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. The Aviation Program is housed in the Department of International Business, Supply Chain and Aviation and offers a two-year Aviation Diploma and the newly launched four-year Bachelor of Aviation Management. Students in the School of Communications Studies take a four-year Bachelor of Communication Studies (BComms) and can pursue majors in Broadcast Media Studies, Information Design, Journalism and Public Relations. In addition to the two degrees and their majors, students are offered a variety of minors, concentrations and certificates to complement their major.
The Bissett School of Business is an accredited member of EFMD, a global, non-profit, membership-driven organization dedicated to management development.
About the BBA, General Management
The Department of General Management & Human Resources offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in both General Management and Human Resources. The General Management program helps students understand the “big picture” in a variety of business sectors. Coursework in this degree allows students to gain skills and knowledge needed to manage or start a business. The General Management major is designed to offer students flexibility in program design and transferability, as well as exposure to a broad number of key business areas. Core Courses include: Human Resources, Marketing, Global Business Environment and Business Communication, Operations Management, Business Law, Organizational Behaviour, and Strategic Management.
About the Role
The Department of General Management & Human Resources at Mount Royal University (Calgary) invites applications for a three-year, limited-term faculty position in the area of general management at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 15, 2025. We seek an individual who can contribute meaningfully to the general management program. Areas of teaching and developing curriculum for our introductory multi-section courses including Management Principles and Practices and Business Communication. The successful candidate may have the option of developing and delivering special topics in GM course(s) in the future. Applicants are encouraged to highlight their qualifications and interest in each applicable subject area. MRU is committed to scholarly teaching.
New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member is involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) has a focus on teaching and service only.
This 3-year, limited-term role follows the TS work pattern; therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to teach eight 3-credit hour courses per academic year. Class sizes typically average between 35-40 students. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching four courses each semester and will be an active participant in various service roles.
Responsibilities
● Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outlines, other course materials, course activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and course learning management systems; and
● Administration: administer final exams, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in course-related meetings, as required; and
● Service: may include: coaching student competition teams, mentoring student clubs, assisting with the development of curriculum, and serving on departmental or university committees; and
● Community: At Mount Royal University our industry connections are an important and integral part of our programs. The successful candidate will be required to actively liaise with human resources industry partners or professional associations on behalf of the Bissett School of Business.
Qualifications
- Masters required, PhD or DBA in Management (or closely related discipline) is preferred;
- Teaching experience in at the post-secondary level and the ability to teach a range of courses within General Management;
- Experience with curriculum development would be an asset;
- Professional or industry engagement experience is an asset;
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills;
- The Department will give preference to candidates who have experience with Indigenous Relations and established connections to Indigenous communities, including students
