About the Role
The Department of General Education invites applications for a contract lecturer position in the area of Communications for the fall semester, commencing September, 2026.
The Department of General Education delivers the General Education program within all of Mount Royal’s baccalaureate degrees. The General Education program is organized around four thematic clusters.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a foundation level course that falls primarily into General Education’s Cluster-Four, “Communications”. We are especially interested in a qualified candidate with a well-developed understanding of liberal education in general and able to identify and address key debates under the Cluster’s thematic orientation.
GNED 1403 - Writing in a Digital Context: Language, Media, Culture
The course demands that "students in this foundational composition course will explore how various new media shape their writing. The course examines social media in particular, such as social networking sites, video file sharing, and blogging, in the context of rhetoric, cultural studies, and new literacies."
This course focuses on the development of an undergraduate level of proficiency in written and oral communication across a range of media. They further facilitate the development of a capacity for critical reflection upon various communication media and their uses.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Humanities or a closely related field (such as English, visual arts, cultural studies, rhetoric/composition, or media/film studies). However, an MA will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide the University with academic transcripts from degree-granting institutions. If the requirements are not completed, employment contracts will be rescinded.
